The department boasts a highly accomplished faculty of educators and scientists. For example, Professor Eugene Hecht is the author of several widely used textbooks, including Optics. Professor Rao published about 90 research papers and edited a compendium of five volumes in the areas of lasers, optics, and spectroscopy.
