In this exciting historical juncture, when digital technology is expanding the opportunity for both the creation and distribution of media-based expressions, the Moving Image Arts concentration prepares students not just to ride this changing tide, but to contribute to the shape of future reality.
Students are exposed to the traditional grammar of cinema while at the same time being encouraged to explore new media possibilities in this evolving “language.” A variety of cinema studies courses expose students to the wide range of effective cinema.
In small intensive workshop classes, students learn digital and film production. The plan of study includes a basic production class, followed by two levels of production courses in video and two in film. These culminate in the Open Studio Workshop, a class that allows students to produce ambitious personal projects in a professionally organized structure. Students can repeat this class to gain more experience.
Media literacy is taught through classes and through participating in SAY IT!, an elementary school-based media literacy program.
Professional internships allow students to experience working in media and provide them the opportunity to showcase their personal skills to potential employers.
