A minimum of 38 credits in Biology courses is required. These credits must include the Biological Concepts and Methods courses, Genetics & associated lab, one course each in Categories I, II, and III, and a Capstone Experience course, along with additional courses from any category or electives to give a total of 38 credits.

*One course each from Category I, Category II, and Category III is required.

**A minimum of two courses at the 400- and/or 500-level, excluding BIO 491 through BIO 499, are required. Courses used to meet other requirements can also meet this requirement.

***MTH 114 (Statistics for the Natural Sciences) and one additional course in mathematics or computer science are also required for the B.S. degree. Acceptable math courses include MTH 110, MTH 140, or any course with a prerequisite of MTH 140. Acceptable computer science courses include CSC 160, CSC 171, or any course with a prerequisite of CSC 171. Note that MTH 114 also satisfies the General Education second competency requirement.

Please Note: That non-biology requirements for the B.A. in biology differ considerably from those outlined here for the B.S.

****6 credits in each of the General Education Distribution categories (Arts, Humanites, and Social Sciences) are necessary for Biology majors to fulfill the General Education requirements.  (Courses taken for the major will fulfill requirements for the Natural Sciences and Mathematics distribution).  These required distribution courses may be taken during any semester.
