Please note:
- Students should check to make sure they are properly coded in the Office of the Registrar for this program of study. The code is AEN (#23163) B.A. in Art Education.
- Students who major in Art Education must follow the Art Department's recommended program of study in art with a concentration in Art Education.
- Students must also complete the University's required General Education program.
- Students must take 6 credits in a language other than English to meet NY State Teaching Certification requirements. This requirement may be waived by producing documentation of passing scores on High School Regents Examinations or documented fluency.
- Students must pass three parts of the New York State Teacher Certification Examination (NYSTCE) prior to being admitted into student teaching:
Liberal Arts and Sciences Test (L.A.S.T.);
Assessment of Teaching Skill, Written (ATS-W), either elementary OR secondary;
and Content Specialty Test (C.S.T.) in Art.
Test Registration Bulletins are available in Harvey Hall, Room 130.
- There are advance deadlines for student teaching in the final semester.
For Fall student teaching placements, students must apply no later than December 1.
For Spring student teaching placements, students must apply no later than March 15. - The NY State Visual Arts Certification covers grades pre-K-12.
- You must apply for certification in the final semester prior to graduation. Applications are available in the Office of the Registrar and Harvey 130.
- A minimum of 100 hours observation/fieldwork prior to the student teaching semester is required.
